Lace Up and Glide

Free public skating returns, so grab your skates and hit the ice with the City of Sarnia!

There’s something timeless about the sound of blades cutting across fresh ice. This winter, Sarnia’s arenas are once again buzzing with families, friends, and solo skaters looking to enjoy one of Canada’s. Whether you are perfecting your stride or just learning to glide, there is ice time waiting for you.

Free Public Skating is Back

The City of Sarnia’s Free Public Skating Program is officially open for the season, offering a variety of sessions to suit every skater.

Choose from:

·        Family Skates for all ages

·        Parent and Tot Skates for little ones taking their first steps on the ice

·        Adult Skates for those who prefer a quieter glide

·        Open Skates for anyone ready to lace up and join in

Families are reminded that children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 18 or older. It’s a simple way to ensure everyone enjoys the ice safely and confidently.

The full schedule is available online so you can plan your visit to one of Sarnia’s indoor arenas.

A Tradition of Community Rinks

Alongside the City’s indoor programs, community passion for skating continues to shine outdoors. On October 20, 2025, Sarnia City Council approved an outdoor rink pilot project to allow residents to apply to build and maintain community-built rinks free of charge on approved city-owned parkland.

The program will provide a gathering place for families and friends on crisp winter days and keep the tradition of neighbourhood rinks alive.

More information about how to apply will be available at www.sarnia.ca soon.

Skating Safely, Skating Together

Wherever you choose to skate, remember to dress warmly, wear safety gear, and respect posted rules at all facilities. Most importantly, enjoy the moment. Skating in Sarnia doesn’t have to be just exercise; it’s also about connecting with others in the fresh air and enjoying the joys of winter.

So lace up your skates, grab a friend, and hit the ice. The season is just getting started.
