Discover Sarnia’s Trees of Distinction by Bike

The City’s Trees of Distinction Interactive Bike Tour offers residents and visitors a unique way to explore the city’s streets, parks, and neighbourhoods on two wheels.

This self-guided cycling experience follows an approximately 21km route from City Hall to Centennial Park, highlighting 17 remarkable trees recognized for their beauty, character, or distinctive nature. Along the way, riders can discover notable specimens such as the Honey Locust near City Hall, Eastern Cottonwood, Fernleaf Beech, and other treasured parts of Sarnia’s urban tree canopy.

The interactive map provides specific tree locations, photographs, background details, and bike-tour directions, making it easy to plan a route and explore at your own pace. Accessible from a computer, tablet, or mobile device, the map also allows users to move around the route and interact with its features before or during their ride.

The full tour takes approximately two and a half hours, depending on your pace and the time you spend enjoying each stop. It’s an ideal fall activity for visitors, residents, families, cycling enthusiasts, and anyone looking to experience Sarnia from a different perspective.

Beginning at City Hall, located at 255 Christina Street North, the route takes guests on a journey through the community before finishing at Centennial Park. Along the way, riders will see how Sarnia’s mature trees contribute to the city’s character, livability, and sense of place.

The Trees of Distinction were identified by the Lambton County Arbour Week Committee along with nominations from local residents. Together, they tell a story about the natural features that make Sarnia an enjoyable place to live, work, visit, and explore.

Before setting out, access the Trees of Distinction Interactive Bike Tour and plan your ride.

Please respect private property. All trees should be viewed from the sidewalk or road.
